LaceUp makes digital sports events, GPS-based events, and geocaching for sports events measurable – as an autonomous alternative to Strava challenges with regional activation and context.

In the final part of our series, we take a look behind the scenes - and ahead to what's coming next.to really understand how digital doping works, we didn't just recognize it - we developed it ourselves.

To ensure that all rides in LaceUp events are rated fairly, we have developed an algorithm together with our colleagues at ETH Zurich that automatically evaluates the quality of each individual activity.

One rider had to be removed from the Les Cols de Zurich ranking list - not because of classic "digital doping", but presumably because an e-bike ride was submitted as a regular activity. The case shows how important transparent GPS analyses and fairness are in digital competitions.

Our current analysis - a collaboration between LaceUp, ETH Zurich and students Kevin Kosch and Nikolaus Rath - examines the phenomenon of digital doping: the manipulation of GPS tracks to gain an advantage or to test data quality.

To ensure fairness and trust in GPS-based timekeeping, LaceUp has launched a research project together with ETH Zurich. The aim is to develop an algorithm that automatically recognizes manipulated or poor-quality GPS tracks.

With LaceUp, this energy can be extended - and a one-day event can be turned into a digital sporting event that inspires for weeks or even months. This creates hybrid sporting events that combine the best of both worlds: the emotional experience on site and flexible participation via digital channels.

Four weeks of pure enthusiasm, record participation with 750 registered riders and countless duels - against themselves, the clock and of course the strongest competitors.

LaceUp officially becomes A Start-up Company of ETH Zurich, reinforcing its mission to create digital solutions that enhance outdoor sports experiences and get more people moving.
